Following the band's first album The Optimist LP, this was a bit of a departure, relying on more electric instruments. Despite the change in sound, the album was received well by critics and reached number four on the UK Albums Chart. Nick - A Tribe Called Quest / The Love Movement This album amongst hip hop heads and Tribe nerds is a controversial pick. Upon it's release it was picked apart and criticised as it was evident that Tribe were pretty serious in pushing it along with their ever evolving sound. This is why I love Tribe. They were alway's evolving, and standing still. The saddest part of it all is that it was kinda the beginning of the end as they split not long after. The breakdown of the group and ensued around this time can be sadly seen in Michael Rappaport's 'Beats, Rhymes & Life' documentary. In typical Tribe fashion the production is through the roof and is handled by The Ummah which was a production group consisting of Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, Jay Dilla, Raphael Saadiq and D'Angelo. What's not to like? The Love Movement also had killer singles on it also... Find A Way and Like It Like That. If you have only heard Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders, this is a must listen to see the groups progression and what ended up morphing into Q-Tip's solo sound.
