After the demise of NWA Dr Dre parted ways with his genre defining group to begin his chapter with infamous label Deah Row Records, and to focus on production and his new solo career. Before the creation of his classic 'The Chronic' he discovered the unique talent of a Long Beach MC called Snoop Doggy Dogg, and showcased him on that classic first album. Snoop was arguably the highlight of the album with his slick nasel-ly storytelling vibes but done with a gangsta edge. It was new and refreshing. The hype around Snoop was huge and it was inevitable that Dre went straight to work on a Snoop debut album. Bringing in Snoops' fellow crew the Dogg Pound (Kurupt & Daz Dillinger), Nate Dogg, RBX, Sam Sneed etc the ingredients were there to make an all time classic. Featuring the banging singles Gin and Juice, What's My Name, and Doggy Dogg World, Doggystyle was a multi million selling record and made Snoop the hottest ticket in music. In my opinion Doggystyle is arguably the gangsta album that stands up the best to the test of time, and still sunds incredible today. An absolute must-own.
