Water and Dust is the 3rd studio album from the Riverina in Wiradjuri Country-based Alternative-Rock artist William Crighton. Crighton's previous releases have received praise from praise of Rolling Stone, who celebrated Crighton’s “uniquely penetrating storytelling”, Sydney Morning Herald who said “Crighton is a continuation of an Australian songwriting lineage that takes in Slim Dusty and Cold Chisel's Don Walker”. His 2018 album Empire was also named Album Of The Year by Hoodoo Gurus’ Dave Faulkner in the Saturday Paper. Released by ABC Music.

Melvic Centre

This extremely limited pressing of just 100 vinyl records is the debut album from Will Mitchell's Melvic Centre. You may remember Will's previous band, Newcastle's Rort Menace. Recorded by Jason Whalley (Frenzal Rhomb) at The Pet Food Factory, Mitchell assumes the one man band roll playing every instrument on the recording, with Whalley and Jemima Parry-Ewing contributing backing vocals. The record is a collection of 10 original songs that any Bob Mould or Paul Westerberg fan will appreciate, with a sound that pays homage to a distinctly Australian melodic punk rock sound ala Blueline Medic, Bodyjar etc.

Size of the Ocean received critical acclaim on release and was nominated for best alternative album in the 2001 Aria awards, and the track Hibernate made the JJJ hottest 100 in the same year. The Cup of Pestilence is the tenth studio album by Australian punk band Frenzal Rhomb. The album was recorded in October 2022 in Colorado, with Bill Stevenson as the producer. The album was released on 7 April 2023, and is the first album by the band to feature Michael Dallinger on bass guitar.

Ripper '23

With the release of their cheeky new album 'Ripper '23', Hard-Ons have consolidated gains made on their last album - #4 ARIA Album charting 'I'm Sorry Sir, That Riff's Been Taken' - and are making music with astounding vigour and purpose. Which is amazing for a band getting primed for their 20th European tour! 'I'm Sorry Sir, That Riff's Been Taken' was the first record made by the band's current line-up. With new kid/old fan Tim Rogers now ingrained and making increased contributions - last time he came on board when the songs were mostly written and studio time already booked - Ripper 23 is a bit more layered, and main songwriter Blackie has written with Tim's voice in mind. It's still 100% Hard-Ons though, and from the punky blast of first single "Apartment for Two" to the big balls riffing of "In Falls Everything", the record is shot through with big hooks and an unstoppable surging sonic power along with some sweet production touches. And like the nasty TV-advertised '70s hits compilation the album takes its title and cover art inspiration from, Ripper 23 is all over the shop (in a good way), highlighting the group's stylistic versatility.

Rudderless Records - Record Store Day 2024

This weekend is going to be a BIG weekend for us at Rudderless, we’d like to let you know about our HUGE day for Record Store Day on Saturday April 20th.

Our day is going to be a celebration of the local record store, the records and people within, as well as the community around them.

We will be celebrating with specials instore as well as prizes and exclusive giveaways etc. But in conjunction with all that we will be celebrating the day with live music.

We will have the brilliant and experimental Sunbiirds come to warp our innocent minds. Will Mitchell from the incredible Melvic Centre playing tunes from his brilliant album acoustically and then we’ll be topped off with the outstanding Melody Pool who will blow us away into the evening.

Throughout that we will have Rudderless DJ’s spinning an eclectic range of tunes for you all, and we are also opening up the ‘Open Decks’ so if you fancy bringing a baby of records and showing off some of those gems, you can visit the link in our bio and register to play.

The yum @marshallanddaughters will be stocking up with a range of their delicious cookies for all with a ravenous sweet tooth and the @theedwardsbar will be open for all with a thirst.

It’s going to be an exciting day for of good, good music and people and we look forward to seeing you all there!

RUDDERLESS RECORDS PRESENTS…

‘Artists Top 5’.

This week we had the wonderful @melodyjanepool come into store and breakdown her top 5 records, and what a hoot it was.

Melody picked records from @billcallahansmog, @jonimitchell, @gurrumul, Pentangle and @lindaperhacs. Super eclectic choices full of wonderful songwriting, versatility and warmth.

Yesterday Melody released her new single ‘Fantasy Girl’ and what a beaut it is. The craft of songwriting on full display, with a beautiful vocal from Melody and superb production from @chrisdalemusic. If this single is anything to go by we are extra excited about a new full release, so keep those eyes and ears open.
It can be streamed on all the major platforms and the accompanying video can be watched now on Youtube so we suggest you can and check that out.

Melody will be performing live tomorrow at our extra special first ever Rudderless Live RSD 2024 so come down, and check out Melody performing ‘Fantasy Girl’ along with others from her extensive back catalogue.

We recently launched our new DJ booth instore, and have birthed our weekly 'Open Decks'.

With 'Open Decks' we encourage you to come down either day of a weekend and bring a bag of records with you. No matter the experience with deejaying, no judgement at all.. It's all about showcasing good tunes, along with maybe chucking in that obscure record you've always wanted to show off.
Totally open to just walk on in, but if you are able to maybe shoot us a message on our INSTAGRAM beforehand just so we can assign you a slot incase of others wanting to come in too that'd be appreciated.
